Removing a singer's voice from a track (Adobe Audition 1.0)

For Adobe Audition and Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro 2.x

Channel Mixer is an Adobe Audition plug-in that allows for a number of different stereo effects, including removing a singer's voice from a track (the Vocal Cut preset). The Vocal Cut preset sums the left channel with the inverse of the right, and places the resulting audio into both channels. On music where the vocals are equally loud on both channels, the vocals disappear, or come close to disappearing. This feature works only on about 50% of files.

The effectiveness of the Vocal Cut preset is based on the content of the audio. Use these guidelines for the best results:

-- File must be stereo.

-- Vocals must be in the center of the stereo image. If they're off to one side, some vocals will remain.
